Day three, December 16th, 2006. See more here. Up early again to do the sunrise surf check. Still pretty windy and a bit more energy rolling in, most spots were generally gnarly and bumpy. Hard to pick a spot...
On the way back, we stopped at Lumahai Beach. I went down to the water's edge to get these few shots...Massive amounts of moving water on the inside. We've surfed here before and know the power of the rip current. We wanted something a little more relaxing and fun...Later we heard a visiting family was swept from the beach and lost their lives. Sad! But this happens quite frequently here.
On the way back to David's...A few images that I caught.
After some fried rice breakfast, we headed back out to get in the water. Secrets was big, so we opted to surf at this unnamed spot, (for respect of the locals). Every once and a while, there was this wedge effect from waves bouncing off the rocky shelf causing this peak to jack up. The river mouth added the COLD brown water with yellowish foam. Mmm, can anyone say leptosporosis(sp)? No photos of us surfing cause I was in the water and Eileen left early to tend to our baby bird... A 2 hour session ended when Steve said to me, "I think it's time to go in. Something bumped my fin". I turned around a caught the next rideable wave almost all the way in leaving Steve behind. I asked no questions...When Steve says let's go in, that's it. LET'S GO IN!
As dinner was being prepped, I wanted to show our accommodations at Dave's house. Beautiful Koa wood decorations in the warm, open living room. Steve had a futon on the floor, Neal was on the couch and I get the office behind a door since I'm known for snoring... Me, really?
A few drinks to set the mood. Fine wine provided by liquor expert David along with a couple a shots of tequila as well as are favorite suds in a bottle...We didn't really drink the Tignanello, Dave was just showing off.
Chef Kapela doing his wife's favorite dish. We call it "Chicken Kapela". Neal helped prepare the ingredients as Steve pounded the chicken with a 3lb. sledge hammer. Knowing the freak that I am not liking mushrooms, Steve prepared a special pan without the fungus just for me. Thanks Steve!
